Resurface-Only
The fastest way back to a pool that looks and feels new — we strip the old surface to the shell and apply a fresh finish: plaster, quartz, PebbleTec, or Pebble Sheen. Right for a sound shell with a surface that's simply aging or stained.
Full Renovation
Goes past the surface — new waterline tile, coping, a redesigned deck, or upgraded equipment layered onto a fresh resurface. Right for a pool whose bones are fine but whose look or function has fallen behind.
Redesign
Changes the pool itself — reshaping the footprint, adding a sunken seating area, a fire bowl, or a raised spa. The most involved path, closest to new construction, and the most likely to need a permit.

Drain & Demo
The pool is drained and the old surface chipped or hydro-blasted to the shell. Old tile and coping come out too, for renovations.

Shell repairs, plumbing corrections, or equipment swaps happen now — before anything new goes on top of them.
Finish, Tile, Coping & Decking
New surface goes on, tile and coping are set, and decking is poured or laid — each step depends on the last one curing first.
Startup & Curing
The pool is refilled and chemically balanced under a controlled startup — critical for plaster and pebble finishes, which can stain if rushed.

Finish, Tile, Coping & Decking Options
Surface Finish
Standard white plaster is the most affordable option with a clean, classic look, but shows staining sooner than the alternatives. Quartz aggregate adds durability for a modest step up. Waterline Tile
Glass tile catches light and reads as the most premium option, though it's more delicate to impact. Porcelain tile is durable and available in nearly any color at a more moderate cost. Natural stone brings a unique texture but needs periodic sealing. Full options are on our tile & coping page.
Coping
Travertine is Houston's most common choice — it stays noticeably cooler underfoot through summer, though it's porous and needs sealing. Natural stone carries a premium look. Precast concrete pavers are the more budget-conscious option, with less natural variation.
Decking
Travertine decking is the local favorite for the same heat-resistance reason as the coping. Stamped concrete is the most economical option but needs reinforcement against Houston's clay soil movement. Pavers cost more up front but can be repaired panel by panel instead of replacing the whole deck.

What Commonly Surfaces Once We Open the Pool
Once the old surface or tile comes off, we sometimes find things that weren't visible before demo started — hairline shell cracks hidden under years of plaster, corroded rebar near the waterline, plumbing that has shifted, or older wiring that no longer meets code.
It's also common to find a pump, heater, or filter near the end of its service life once the equipment pad is opened up — something we'd recommend replacing anyway. See our equipment renovation page for what that typically involves.
